Delivery Settings

Delivery settings are unique to Blackboard Open Content (formerly xpLor). They allow you to set specific settings that determine how a resource is displayed to students and what actions are available to students viewing a resource.

When you create a resource, you set up the delivery settings. However, you can override the settings when you use a resource within your course. Each resource type has a section for Activity Settings on the resource editor that allows resource authors to set defaults for the delivery settings. Click Activity Settings (activity.png) on the resource toolbar.

Each resource has different delivery settings available.

Once you define the delivery settings, you can choose which courses you want to apply the current settings to.

Discussion Forum Delivery Settings

You can select custom discussion forum delivery settings. From Activity Settings, select the Use custom settings check box. The options available for discussion forum delivery settings are:

  • Discussion Scope: Determines who may see student posts within the discussion forum. Options are:
    • (current) Class
    • My Institution
    • Everyone (in Blackboard Open Content)
  • Limit students to [X] top-level posts: Determines the maximum number of top-level posts students may make. Students may be able to continue commenting on others' posts.
  • Students cannot reply to top-level posts: Determines if students may comment on top-level posts.
  • Students cannot edit posts after [X] [minutes/hours/days]: Determines the amount of time students may edit their own posts.
  • Students cannot include attachments: Determines if students may attach files to posts.
  • Students cannot see other students’ posts: Determines if students may see other students’ posts within the discussion forum.
  • Students cannot report inappropriate posts: Determines the visibility of the “report” option on posts.
  • Students must post before viewing posts: Determines if students are able to see other posts within the discussion forum before posting themselves.
  • Instructor must approve posts: Determines if instructors are required to approve posts before they are visible to others.

NOTE: If the Discussion Scope is set to My Institution or Everyone, the discussion is automatically created as an anonymous discussion.  Posts by students appear to other students as anonymous.  An anonymous avatar image is generated and the student's post name is "Anonymous."  As the instructor, you will be able to see all of your students' real names and profile pictures.
