Prerequisites

Prior to configuring your installation, review the following items to ensure that they are configured correctly for the type of database you will be using.

Caution: If upgrading from a previous version of Blackboard Collaborate , you should back up your data prior to running the installation.

SSL and HTTP Tunneling

The Blackboard Collaborate Server permits secure conferencing using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt the conference data as it is transmitted between the client and server. Prior to installation, you will need to configure your SSL system. Refer to the Advanced Configuration Guide under Configuring SSL and HTTP Tunneling.

Multiple Blackboard Collaborate Servers

Having multiple Blackboard Collaborate Servers will allow for distribution of users across servers. When setting up multiple servers, each server will need only specific components from the installation CD or ISO. We recommend you have a system-wide design of how you wish to distribute the load for Blackboard Collaborate prior to the installation.

Below is a list of the components that need to be installed for a configuration of one ELM and three Blackboard Collaborate Servers:

  • Server 1 - ELM + License Manager custom installation features:
    • Blackboard Collaborate License Manager
    • ELM
    • Common
    • Adapters (if required)
  • Server 2 – Blackboard Collaborate Server custom installation features:
    • Blackboard Collaborate Server
  • Server 3 – Blackboard Collaborate Server custom installation features:
    • Blackboard Collaborate Server
  • Server 4 – Blackboard Collaborate Server custom installation features:
    • Blackboard Collaborate Server

When configuring each of the Blackboard Collaborate Servers, you must ensure the following:

  1. Each of the Blackboard Collaborate Servers is installed with the same license (*.lm) file.
  2. The total number of available seats to be shared by the three servers can be defined by setting the appropriate maximum bandwidth utilization of the server.
  3. Each of the Blackboard Collaborate Servers has a shared folder available to ELM for accessing recordings.

Example:

\\ElluminateLiveServerNumberN\RecordingsExport

The ElluminateLiveServerNumberN server must be accessible from ELM and the RecordingsExport folder must have read/write access allowing ELM to import recordings from that location.
