Starting, Stop, and Restart the Services and Daemons

Services and daemons are programs that run invisibly in the background. They load and start running whether or not anyone logs onto the server, rather than under the explicit command of the user. However, you can manually start, stop, or restart the Blackboard Collaborate Server, ELM and Blackboard Collaborate License Manager services and daemons.

Services run on Windows. Daemons run on Linux and Solaris and, typically, have names that end with the letter "d". (For example, elmd is the daemon that handles ELM.)

Windows Services

Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services

Right-click on the appropriate service and select the desired action from the menu.

Looking at the Services window you can see it has columns for Name, Description, Status, Startup Type, and Log On As. Detailed information is available on each service by double-clicking on any of the entries.

Linux and Solaris Daemons

The following table lists the commands to perform various actions (e.g., stop, start and restart) on Blackboard Collaborate daemons on Linux or Solaris.
