Score Symbols

You can use score symbols such as check marks, plus signs, minus values, or Pass/Fail symbol. You can also assign a specific value (%) to each symbol.

How are symbols used in calculations? If you enter a score symbol for a student’s assignment in the gradebook, the student’s score for that assignment will be calculated by multiplying the assignment’s maximum point value by the score symbol’s value. For example, if an assignment’s maximum point value is 20, and you assign a student a score symbol with the value of 50%, then the score used in calculations would be 10 (20 x 50%).
