Skill Assessment Scales

The Skill Assessment Scales option allows you to select the scale you want to use for assessing your student's progress regarding skills. Your district or school may use assessment values such as a Pass/Fail scale, an Above or Below Grade level scale, or any scale you wish to use.

How to Add a Skill Assessment Scale

  1. On the Settings page, click Skill Assessment Scales from the list of Grading options to access the skill settings.
  2. To add a new scale, click Add Scale button.
  3. Type the Name of the scale and click OK.

    After you add an assessment scale, you can add the values that can be assigned to students.

How to Add Values to the Skill Assessment Scale

  1. On the Settings page, click Skill Assessment Scales from the list of Grading options to access the skill settings.
  2. Select the Scale number from the list available in the Skill Scales area.
  3. Check Set default skill assessment scale if you want the selected scale to be used in the gradebooks as the default evaluation for all students.
  4. Click Add Grade to create a new assessment level to the scale.
  5. Type the assessment value in the Grade box. Click OK.
  6. To set the specific assessment level as the default, check Set as Default Grade in the right column.

    If Skill Grading is set in GradeQuick Web, you will see the message, Your gradebook is currently assigning scores based on the Test Statistic Average in the Skill Scale area. You will need to add the average minimum value for assigning the assessment grade if this feature is set. The Test Statistic Average changes based on what you set in this field. You will be able to enter the Cutoff Values.

  7. Double-click the Cutoff Values box to change the value of the average minimum for assigning the grade.
  8. Continue until you have entered all the possible values available in the skill assessment scale.

How to Change the Name of the Skill Assessment Scale

  1. Click Edit Scale Name next to the skill scale name.
  2. Enter the new title for the scale in the Name box.
  3. Click OK when finished.

How to Change an Assessment Grade

  1. To edit the assessment value, double-click in the Grade box in the table row and type the change.

    If Skill Grading is set in GradeQuick Web, you will see the message, Your gradebook is currently assigning scores based on the Test Statistic Average in the Skill Scale area. You will need to add the average minimum value for assigning the assessment grade if this feature is set. The Test Statistic Average changes based on what you set in this field.

  2. Double-click the Cutoff Values box to change the value of the average minimum for assigning the grade. You will be able to enter the Cutoff Values.
  3. Click OK when finished.

How to Delete a Skill Assessment Scale

You can delete any scale, even if it is used in the Skills area. The scale and its skill values will not be removed from any student’s assessment where it is already used, but it can no longer be selected for future assessments.

  1. Select the Scale from the list available in the Skill Scales area.
  2. Click Delete Scale.
    A warning appears ensuring the deletion.
  3. Click Delete to delete the scale.
  4. Click OK when finished.

How to Delete an Assessment

You can delete any assessment, even if it is used in the Skills section. The value will not be removed from any student’s assessment where it is already used, but it can no longer be selected for future assessments.

  1. To remove an assessment grade, highlight the row of the grade in the Skill Assessment Scales table, and click the Delete icon that appears in the right column (Set as Default Grade or Cutoff Values box).
  2. Click Save when finished.
