Assignments

You can create, change, and delete assignments through the Gradebook page available in My Gradebooks. Plus, any assignments you create in GradeQuick Web will also appear in My Gradebooks.

Assignments can include homework, tests, quizzes, and any special assignments not linked to a specific marking period such as semester or mid-term exams.

How to Add Assignments

  1. Select the gradebook where you want to enter grades from the Gradebooks drop-down list.
  2. Click Add Assignment for the Add Assignment dialog.

If your school’s Gradebook Manager "freezes" a grading period, you will not be able to add, change, or delete assignments or scores. A warning will appear when adding an assignment to a frozen grading period.

  3. Enter the details about the assignment (for, example homework or test) by completing the following steps:
    • Type the name of the assignment in the ;Assignment Name box. This name can be up to 8 characters.
    • Type an additional description in the Long Name box. This box is optional and can include up to 40 characters.

    Special Assignment Step

    • To exclude an assignment from a particular marking (grading) period, check Is Special Assignment. This field sets the entry as a special assignment, such as semester exams or mid-terms. The Term drop-down will be removed, and the Semester box may be available for you to select a specific semester for the special assignment. The Semester box is available only if you choose to calculate semester subtotals.
    • Select the grading period for the assignment from the Term box. If your school customizes this box, it may not be Term (default setting which appears in previous picture), but it can be another grading period such as Quarter or Trimester.
    • Type or select the assignment classification from the Category box. Categories may include Homework, Test, or Project. The category name can be up to 8 characters, and you can have up to 32 categories.
    • Type or select the date of the assignment from the Date box. The current date is the default. You can use the calendar-picker (File:en-us/Edline/050_Gradebooks/030_My_Gradebooks/040_Gradebooks/010_Assignments/calendar-icon-my-gradebooks.jpg) feature available in this field to select the date.

Type the date in the MM/DD/YY format for a two-digit month, two-digit day, and two-digit year.

    • Type the total points a student can earn on the assignment in the Possible Points box. You will not be able to enter any scores until the possible number of points is entered.
    • Type the possible weighted amount for the assignment in the Assignment Weight box, if the box is available (usually entered for special assignments). To learn more, see the GradeQuick Web online help.
  4. Click OK when finished.
The assignment will be added to the Gradebook page.

Your assignments, such as semester or mid-term exams, can also be added by your Gradebook Manager through GradeQuick Web.

How to Change Assignments

If the assignment is an Interactive Assignment built through your Edline website, see the Sync Interactive Classroom with My Gradebooks section.

  1. Click the Information (File:en-us/Edline/050_Gradebooks/030_My_Gradebooks/040_Gradebooks/010_Assignments/new-UI-information-icon.jpg) icon available in the Assignment Column to view the assignment information.
  2. Click Edit to change the assignment details.

If your school’s Gradebook Manager "freezes" a grading period, you will not be able to add, change, or delete assignments or scores. The Edit button will not be available if the grading period is frozen.

  3. Change any of the following fields in the Edit Assignment dialog:
    • Change the name of the assignment in the Assignment Name box.
    • Change the description in the Long Name box.
    • Change either the Is Special Assignment setting or the Term. Checking Is Special Assignment defines the entry as a special assignment, such as semester exams or mid-terms. The Term drop-down list will be removed, and the Semester box may be available for you to select a specific semester for the special assignment.
The Term list allows you to set the grading period for the assignment. Your school can customize the name of this field, so instead of Term you may see Quarter or Trimester.
    • Change the assignment classification in the Category box.
    • Change the date of the assignment from the Date box.
    • Change the number of points for the assignment in the Possible Points box.
    • If required, change the weight for the assignment in the Assignment Weight box. To learn more, see Set Weights.
  4. Click OK when finished.

How to Delete Assignments

When you delete an assignment, you also delete the scores associated with that assignment.

  1. Click the Information (File:en-us/Edline/050_Gradebooks/030_My_Gradebooks/040_Gradebooks/010_Assignments/new-UI-information-icon.jpg) icon available in the Assignment Column to view the assignment information.
  2. Click Delete to delete the assignment.

If your school’s Gradebook Manager "freezes" a grading period, you will not be able to add, change, or delete assignments or scores. The Delete button will not be available if the grading period is frozen.

  3. Click Yes to delete the assignment.

Deleting an assignment will also delete any scores entered for the assignment. There is no undo option available.
