Create Sports, Activities, and Other Group Pages

A group page on Edline is nothing more than another website within your Edline school website. You can add a new group to the Edline website to create a separate webpage for any club, department, athletic team, or another type of organization that might want to have their own web presence on the school’s website, such as student counseling, special education, media center, or the PTA. The permission to add school-level groups is available to school super users, but super users of groups, such as teachers or coaches, can create other group pages under their own groups or folders.

Classes are a special type of group and are usually created automatically from the upload of data. Classes can be created manually, however, Blackboard does not recommend the manual creation of classes. This topic describes how to create other group pages for your website.

How to Add a New Group

Open the webpage (district or school) where you want to create the new sport, activity, or other webpage. Complete one of the following sets of instructions depending on the type of group you are creating.

How to Add a School-Wide Group from Homepage with Contents Section

If you want to create a school-wide group, such as the Library, to be accessed directly from the home webpage, and the webpage has a Contents section, complete the following steps.

  1. From the Edline menu bar, click Edit This Page to access the edit mode.
  2. Hover over the Contents section, and click the Add an item to this box File:en-us/Edline/040_Super_User/070_Webpage_Maintenance/020_Create_Sports_Activities_and_Other_Group_Pages/addicon.jpg icon to access the Add Item Type pallet.
  3. Select Group Page to access the Create Group page.
  4. Continue with the steps listed in Enter the Group Information.

How to Add a School-Wide Group from Homepage without a Contents Section

If you want to create a school-wide group, such as the Library, to be accessed directly from the home webpage, but the webpage does not have a Contents section, complete the following steps.

  1. Hover over the Home File:en-us/Edline/040_Super_User/070_Webpage_Maintenance/020_Create_Sports_Activities_and_Other_Group_Pages/homeicon.jpg icon in the Edline menu bar, and select More or Edit Contents to access the directory list.
  2. Select Group from the drop-down list and click Add to access the Create Group page.
  3. Continue with the steps listed in Enter the Group Information.

How to Create a Sub-Group

If you want to create a group that is a sub-group of a folder, such as a team within the Sports folder, or the English department within the Departments folder, first open the appropriate folder, and complete the following steps.

  1. From the Edline menu bar, click Edit This Page to access the edit mode.
  2. Hover over the section where you want to add the sub-group, and click the Add an item to this box File:en-us/Edline/040_Super_User/070_Webpage_Maintenance/020_Create_Sports_Activities_and_Other_Group_Pages/addicon.jpg icon to access the Add Item Type pallet.
  3. Select Group Page to access the Create Group page.
  4. Continue with the steps listed in Enter the Group Information.

Enter the Group Information

After you access the Create Group page, continue with the following steps to create the new group.

  1. Type the name of the group (department, sport, or activity) in the Group Name box. This title will appear on the web page for the group.
  2. Type a brief summary for the group in the Group Description box.
  3. In the Group Management area, click Members and Permissions to add a group super user.

Blackboard recommends that the school super user add a coach or leader to the group and assign them to be the group super user. Then the group super user can maintain the group webpage by adding or removing members, adding group pictures, and adding or updating content for the group webpage.

To add the leader to the group and assign them permissions, see the Add Users in a Group and Set Someone as a Super User for a Sport, Activity, or Other Group Website topics.

  4. Click Save and Return to add the new group, or click Save and Add Another to create more groups.
