Set Slide Show Overlays

Important: This feature was added for advanced web designers and is not recommended for novice users.

The Slide Show Overlay Properties are a great way for your school to design a customized header that includes slide show images. By layering a slide show, a transparent background design, a color background, and text, you can create a professional graphic display without using Flash images.

Before setting the overlay for a slide show, you must first add the slide show presentation to your design. To learn more, see Add Slide Shows to Your Website.

How to Set the Slide Show Overlay Properties

  1. From the tree-view of the Site Designer, expand the section of the page that contains the slide show where you want to set overlay properties.
  2. Select the box that contains the slide show you want to edit.
  3. Select the Slide Show Overlay Properties tab to view the properties.
  4. Set the overlay properties by completing the following steps:
    • To add an overlay design to your slide show, you must first set Use Overlay to Yes.
    • Select the design image you want to use as the Overlay Background Image.

It is recommended that the overlay image be a .png file with a transparent section where the slide show pictures can appear. Click the ellipsis icon (File:en-us/Edline/040_Super_User/090_Design_Your_Edline_Website/040_Set_Design_Properties/120_Set_Slide_Show_Overlays/ellipsis.jpg) to browse for and upload the image.

    • To add and adjust color to the overlay, select another overlay for color in the Colorizer Image box.

This step is optional and this feature is for more advanced users. A Colorizer Image must be a 24-bit, true .png with black and white pixels, and with the same transparent section as the Overlay Background Image for the slide show pictures. Click the ellipsis icon to browse for and upload the image.

    • If you added a colorizer image, select the color to replace the BLACK pixels from the Colorizer Color 1 box.

Set the color by typing the name of the color, the hexadecimal number, or clicking the ellipsis icon (File:en-us/Edline/040_Super_User/090_Design_Your_Edline_Website/040_Set_Design_Properties/120_Set_Slide_Show_Overlays/ellipsis.jpg) and selecting the color.

    • If you added a colorizer image, select the color to replace the WHITE pixels from the Colorizer Color 2 box.

    • Set the amount of pixel spacing for the slide show area by typing the width for each slide picture in the Slides Area Width (px) box, and the height for each slide in the Slides Area Height (px) box.

The pictures will be resized to fit inside this area.

    • Set how far from the left margin the slide show presentation will be positioned in the Slides Area Left Edge Position (px) box.

Type the number of pixels and the slide show will be displayed at that position in the design.

    • Set how far from the top the slide show presentation will be positioned in the Slides Area Top Edge Position (px) box.

Type the number of pixels and the slide show will be displayed at that position in the design.

  5. Type and format the text to use in the overlay.

Click on the words Click here to enter text and format the text using the formatting toolbar.

  6. Save the changes.

The finished section will display all the layers together.
