Add Slide Shows to Your Website

Depending on your permission, you can add a slide show to your webpage in one of the following methods:

  • Every super user (including teachers and coaches) can add a slide show as a part of the content for their group page (district, school, class, sport, club, or other activity). The user visiting the page will need to click on the slide show title to launch the slide show. To create a slide show folder for your group page, see Slide Shows.
  • To create a slide show to run directly on your home webpage, you will need design privileges. Complete the following instructions.
To create a design web header using slide show images, you can set the slide show overlays to design a professional header with slide show images. You will need to complete the following instructions, and then complete the steps in the Set Slide Show Overlays topic.

Slide shows do NOT require Flash components. Slide shows will display correctly on mobile products, such as the iPad®.

How to Display a Slide Show on a Web Page

  1. Open the webpage where you want to add the slide show.
  2. From the Edline menu bar, click Edit This Page to access the edit mode.
  3. Click the Add Box button from the Edit Mode toolbar to access the Add Box dialog.
  4. From the New Content box, select Slide Show and click OK.
  5. Select the location to store the slide show folder, and click OK to access the Create/Modify Slide Show page.
  6. Type the title of the presentation in the Slide Show Name box.

This title will appear on the website if you display the header.

  7. Type a brief summary for the presentation in the Slide Show Description box. Optional.
  8. Click Save and Return.

The slide show be added to the page in the top of the Middle Section and you can move the slide show to desired location on the website. The Design Properties dialog will open to set the slideshow properties.

  9. Set the design properties for the slide show in the Slide Show tab.
    • Set the height and width of the slide show pictures in the Item File Width px and Item File Height px boxes.

For best visual quality, it is recommended that you resize the images before uploading the slide show pictures into Edline. It is also recommended that the images be as uniform as possible to fit your chosen dimensions.

    • Set the transition effect for the pictures in the slide show from the Transition Effect list.

Options include Normal for a standard picture change effect, Fade for a fading in/fading out effect, Slide for a sliding from right-to-left effect, Zoom for an expanding effect of the picture from the center of the slide, Mosaic for a fade-in-by-grid effect, Blinds for a linear, horizontal flip effect, Dominoes for a downward, tumbling block effect, Blocks for a cascading, square block effect, and Zipper for a linear, vertical blind flip effect.

    • Set the number of seconds each image will display in the Seconds per Image box.
    • Set whether or not you want the slide show images to fill the presentation in the Crop to Fit box.

Select Yes so that the image fills in as much of the slide show area as possible. This setting fills in the extra white space around the edges of slides in the slide show area. The slide image size will be kept unchanged — the image will not be enlarged. If this option is set to No, any image smaller than the set size will contain white space.

    • Set when to display the image’s title in the Show Image Title box.

Options include Show Always, Show on Hover, and Hide Always.

    • Set when to display the image’s summary in the Show Image Summary box.

Options include Show Always, Show on Hover, and Hide Always.

    • Set when to show the arrow buttons for moving to the next picture in the Show Image Controls box.

Options include Show Always, Show on Hover, and Hide Always.

    • Set the size of the slide show thumbnail display from the Display Thumbnails box.

Options include None (for no thumbnails), Small Thumbnails, Medium Thumbnails, and Large Thumbnails.

    • In the Other tab, change the following two options — (1) set the Show in Box information to Contents auto ht, and (2) set the Show Header to No.
  10. Add the slide show files by completing the following steps:
    • Hover over the slide show box, and click the Add an item to this box icon to access the Upload Picture Files dialog.
    • Click Pick Files to select the slide show files for your upload.

To upload multiple files, press Ctrl key while selecting the file names.

    • Enter a title and a summary for each file (optional) in the Title and Summary boxes.
    • Click Start Upload to upload the files.
    • Click Done when finished uploading all the files.

For optimal performance when displaying slideshow pages, keep image file sizes to a minimum.

  11. Click Done to exit the edit mode.
