Update Attachments

You can update any type of document with an attachment using the Modify Document page. Update the attached file (such as a PDF or Word document), video, picture, or audio by opening the Modify Document page, deleting the old attachment, and attaching the latest file.

Links and News are types of documents. Complete these instructions when updating attachments in a Link or News item.

How to Update an Attached File

You can import a file you have already created with another software program. This feature enables teachers to add study guides listed on the CD that accompanied their teacher’s edition to their class websites, or any other file type that they would like to upload.

Blackboard recommends that all attachments be no larger than 30 MB. If you are having problems uploading large files, this may be caused by the speed of your network connection.

  1. Open the webpage or folder that contains the document you want to update.
  2. From the Edline menu bar, click Edit This Page to access the edit mode.
  3. Hover over the section of the webpage containing the content you want to edit, and click the Edit in list view File:en-us/Edline/030_Teacher/050_My_Class_Page_Content/020_Documents/060_Update_Attachments/editinlisticon.jpg icon.
  4. Click Edit next to the document to open the Modify Document page.
  5. From the Add Content area, click Delete to remove the current copy of the attachment.
  6. Click OK on the warning dialog.
  7. Click the Import an existing file link in the Add Content area.
  8. Click Browse to search for the file in the Import an existing file box.
  9. Select the file and click Import.

Remember — just because Edline accepts any file type when uploading an attachment, it is your responsibility to provide your users with the software to view the file that you post on Edline. For example, if you post a Microsoft Word document, and your users do not have a viewer or the actual program installed on their computer, they will not be able to view the posted Word document.

  10. Click Save and Return when finished.

How to Update an Attached Webpage/Website

To update a webpage or site linked to a document, you just add the new information.

  1. To attach webpages to a document, you must first save all the web files into a zip file.
  5. From the Modify Document page, click Upload a web document in the Add Content area.
  6. Click Browse to search for the zip file containing the webpages in the Upload a Web Document box, and click Upload.

The zip folder that you upload must contain all files associated with the webpage/website that you are uploading. This upload must include any images, html files, or any other associated files necessary for the web page to function properly.

  7. Type the first page to open the web document in the Default starting Page box. (Optional.)
  8. Click Save and Return when finished.
