Update Events

You can update the content of a calendar event if you added the event to the calendar, or if you manage the webpage. This permission is usually available to teachers, coaches, and other super users in charge of webpages. You can update the details of an event, delete events, update or delete a single recurring event, copy and move events to other calendars, and you can approve or reject events set up for you.

How to Change Calendar Event Details

  1. Open the webpage or folder for the calendar where you want to update an event.
  2. Click Calendar to open the calendar.
  3. Click List Items to view a list of calendar items.
  4. Click Edit next to the event to change to open the Modify Document page.
  5. Update the name of the event in the Document Title box. This title will appear on the calendar.
  6. Select a category for the event from the Category/Folder box. For example, if you are a teacher and you are setting the date of a test, you can select the Test category. Categories allow users viewing the calendar to highlight specific types of events.
  7. Update the brief summary for the event in the Document Summary box. The summary appears in the Calendar section on the web page, and as a pop-up description in the Calendar page.
  8. Update the event date by typing a date in the box, or using the calendar tool to select a date.
  9. To update more information about the calendar event, complete the following steps:
    • To update the date or reoccurrence of the event, complete the steps in How to Set an Event as Recurring.
    • To update the details about the event, complete the steps in How to Add Details to a Calendar Event.
    • To add or remove a group from the event, complete the steps in How to Add the Event to More Than One Group.
    • To change who can view the event, complete the steps in How to Restrict the Visibility of a Calendar Event.

  10. If the event is listed in multiple calendars, the Apply changes (update or delete) in all locations option will be available. This feature was designed so that super users can publish or update the same document in multiple locations in at once. Complete one of the following steps:
    • Select Apply changes in all locations to update the event in all calendars.
    • Clear Apply changes in all locations to update the event in the currently opened calendar only.
  11. Click Save and Return to update the event.

How to Delete Events from a Calendar

  1. Open the webpage or folder with the calendar where you want to delete an event.
  2. Click Calendar to go to the calendar section, or select Calendar from the Home menu to open the calendar.
  3. Click List Items to view a full list of calendar items.
  4. Select the event that you want to delete.
  5. If the event is listed in multiple calendars, the in all locations option will be available. This feature was designed for teachers with multiple classes for a specific subject. The feature enables you to quickly delete the multiple copies of the same event. Complete one of the following steps:
    • Select in all locations to delete the event from all calendars.
    • Clear in all locations to delete the event from the current calendar only.

    You can also change who can view the specific calendar events by clicking Change Visibility.

  6. Click Delete. A warning appears.
  7. Click OK to ensure the deletion.

How to Update or Delete One Event in a Recurring Calendar Event

If you want to change the time for a recurring meeting for one specific day, or delete a single instance of a meeting you will be able to do so.

  1. From your calendar, click the name of the event on the date to edit the information.
  2. Click Modify Calendar Event to access the edit toolbar options.
  3. Select one of the options from the toolbar:
    • Click Edit Event to change the single event and not the entire series. You will be able to switch to the entire series if needed. Update any of the fields, including time and date.
    • Click Edit Series to change this event and all future events. You will be able to switch to the single event if needed. Update any of the fields, including time and date.
    • Click Delete Event to delete the event — you will have the option to delete the series or just the specific event.
  4. Click Done when finished.

How to Copy an Event to a Calendar

  1. Open the webpage for the calendar event you want to copy.
  2. Click Calendar to open the calendar.
  3. Click List Items to view a list of calendar items.
  4. Select the events to copy. To select all events, click Select All.
  5. Click Copy to access the Copy Selected Items page.
  6. Select the groups (classes, sports, clubs) to copy the information to from the list.

    To select multiple groups, hold the Ctrl key while selecting the groups.

  7. Click Copy.

How to Move a Calendar Event

  1. Open the webpage or folder with the calendar event you want to move.
  2. Select Calendar to access the calendar.
  3. Click List Items to access the Event List page.
  4. Select the events you want to move. To select all events, click Select All.
  5. Click Move to access the Move Items page.
  6. If the event is listed in multiple calendars, the Move documents in all locations they are displayed option will be available. This feature was designed for teachers with multiple classes for a specific subject. The feature enables you to quickly move the multiple copies of the same event. Complete one of the following steps:
    • Select Move documents in all locations they are displayed to move the event in all calendars to the selected location.
    • Clear Move documents in all locations they are displayed to move only the current calendar event to the selected location.
  7. Select the new location of the calendar event in the Desired Location list. You can select another calendar, or another resource folder.
  8. Click Move Selected Item(s) to update the location of the calendar event.

How to Approve or Reject Content

If your school has set the policy to allow certain user types to add content to your website, you can set the content to be approved or rejected by the super user. Until the content is approved, the content will only be visible to the super user and the author who created the content.

  1. Open the webpage or folder for the content you want to approve. Content submitted for approval may be highlighted in yellow depending on the type of content.
  2. From the Edline menu bar, click Edit This Page to access the edit mode.
  3. Click Edit in list view Calendar box where the item to approve appears, and open the list of contents.
  4. Select the event to approve or reject:
    • Click Approve to approve the event.
    • Click Reject to reject the event. Rejected items may be highlighted in red depending on the type of content.

How to Change the Category of a Calendar Event

  1. Open the webpage or folder with the calendar event you want to re-categorize.
  2. Select Calendar from the webpage to open the calendar.
  3. Click List Items to access a list of Calendar events.
  4. Select the events with the category to update. To select all events, click Select All.

    To create a new category, create a new Edline folder with the name of the category.

  5. Select the category you want to set for the event from the Change Category/Folder to box.
  6. If the event is listed in multiple calendars, the Recategorize documents in all locations they are displayed option will be available. This feature was designed for teachers with multiple classes for a specific subject. The feature enables you to quickly move the re-categorize copies of the same event. Complete one of the following steps:
    • Select Recategorize documents in all locations they are displayed to update the event in all calendars.
    • Clear Recategorize documents in all locations they are displayed to update the event in the current calendar only.
  7. Click Recategorize Now.
