Add Videos

You can add a video in Edline in a document. For example, teachers might create homework assignments that include videos.

If you have design privileges, such as a web designer, you can add a video to a webpage as a part of the design. For more information, see How to Display a Video on the Webpage.

If Adobe® Flash® is not available on a user's device, the video will be automatically converted into HTML 5 format, allowing the video to be viewable on more devices, including Apple's® iPad® and iPhone®. Videos cannot be larger than 128 MB if you are adding the file directly to the document or web page. There is no limit to the size if you are streaming the video stored on another website. Currently Edline supports the following video formats:

  • AVI (.avi)
  • QuickTime (.mov)
  • MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (.mpeg, .mpg, .mp4, .m4v, etc.)
  • Windows Media Video/WMV (.wmv)
  • Flash Video (.flv)
  • 3GPP (.3gp)

How to Add a Video in a Document

  1. Open the webpage or folder where you want to add a video to a document.
  2. From the Edline menu bar, click Edit This Page to access the edit mode.
  3. Hover over the section where you want to add a video, and click the Add an item to this box File:en-us/Edline/030_Teacher/050_My_Class_Page_Content/020_Documents/040_Add_Videos/addicon.jpg icon to access the Add Item Type pallet.
  4. Select Document Page to access the Document Page Title box.
  5. Type the name of the video in the Document Page Title box.
  6. Click Create Now for the Document page.
  7. Click in the text box to access the Formatting toolbar.
  8. Click the Video File:en-us/Edline/030_Teacher/050_My_Class_Page_Content/020_Documents/040_Add_Videos/video_icon.jpg icon.
  9. Add a video by completing the following steps:
    • In the General tab, enter the location of the video in the File/URL box. You can click the Browse icon to search for a video file to add into the document, or type the URL location (such as a TeacherTube video) to include the video.

By entering a URL location, the video will not be stored on the Edline site, so there will be no size limitations for the video. Enter the web location of the video for any video over 128 MB.

    • Type the size of the video in the Dimensions box.
    • Check Constrain proportions to not allow the viewer to enlarge the video.
    • Click Insert.
  10. Click Save to add the document with the video.
  11. Click Done to exit the edit mode.
