Add Items

Teachers can add documents to their personal file locker. Documents, folders, RSS Feeds, and Links added to the file locker can be copied to other sections of Edline for use at a later date.

How to Add Items to My File Locker

You can add a document, link, RSS feed, or folder to the file locker for use at a later date. You create documents or upload files to your File Locker just as you would when adding the items to your web page.

  1. From the My Edline menu, under My Content, select My File Locker to access the file locker.
  2. Select the type of document you want to add from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Add to access the Create Document page.
  4. Complete one of the following steps:
    • For a Word-type of document, or to import an existing file, select Document.
    • For a web link document, select Link.
    • To create a new file folder, select Folder.
    • For a link to a web feed service, select RSS Feed.
  5. Type the name of the document in the Document Title box. This title will appear on the Resource List page of My File Locker.
  6. Type a brief summary for the document in the Document Summary box.
  7. Type or select the date for the document in the Calendar Date box. This option sets the document as a calendar event.
  8. Click Save and Return.

How to Add Additional Content to a File Locker Document

You can add additional content to a file locker document by entering text, attaching a file, adding an image, or attaching a link to a web page. These instructions are for adding additional content to the Document type of file locker document.

How to Enter Additional Text to a Document

  1. From the Create/Modify Document page, click the Enter Text By Hand link in the Add Content section.
  2. Type and format the text for the event in the text box.

    You can also embed pictures, videos, or tables to your document by clicking the Image icon, Video icon, or Table icon.

  3. Type or select a single web link for the event in the Link to the following URL box. (Optional)
  4. To add a link to an image or video on the document, click Browse in the Upload Image or Video box.
  5. Click Save and Return.

How to Attach an Existing Document

You can import a document you have already created with another software program.

  1. From the Create/Modify Document page, click the Import an existing file link in the Add Content section.
  2. Click Browse to search for the file in the Import Existing File box.
  3. Click Import.
  4. Click Save and Return.

How to Attach an Existing Web Page

To attach web pages to a document, you must first save all the web files into a .Zip file.

  1. From the Create/Modify Document page, click the Upload a web document link in the Add Content section.
  2. Click Browse to search for the zip file containing the web pages in the Upload a Web Document box, and click Upload.

    The zip folder that you upload must contain all files associated with the web page/website that you are uploading. This upload must include any images, html files, or any other associated files necessary for the web page to function properly.

  3. Type the first page to open the web document in the Default starting Page box. (Optional)

How to Add a Link to My File Locker

You can save a link to the file locker to access at a later date. These instructions are for adding a Link type of file locker document.

  1. From the Create/Modify Document page, type the full web address for the link in the Link to the following URL box.
  2. To open the link in a new browser window when clicked, select View Link In A New Window When Clicked. Clear if you just want to display the web link address.
  3. Click Save and Return.

To quickly add multiple documents to My File Locker in a single session, use the Save and Add Another option.

How to Add an External RSS Feed to My File Locker

You can save the link for a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed to the file locker to access at a later date. These instructions are for the RSS Feed type of file locker document.

  1. From the Create/Modify Document page, type the feed address in the RSS Feed URL box.
  2. To open the feed in a new browser window, select View Link In A New Window When Clicked. Clear this field if you just want to display the feed web address.
  3. Click Save and Return.

How to Add Folders to My File Locker

You can add a folder to the My File Locker feature accessible through the My Edline menu by selecting My File Locker under My Content.

  1. Select Folder from the Select the type to add list, and click Add to access the Create Folder page.
  2. Type the name of the folder in the Folder Name box. This title will appear on the list of contents for My File Locker.
  3. Type a brief description of the folder in the Folder Description box.
  4. Click Save and Return.
