Solutions to Common Problems

Blackboard continually strives to improve your user experience with our software. Students and parents must contact their school for all technical support issues. Blackboard will not be able to access your student data.

Internet Explorer 11 Notice

Blackboard is pleased to announce the bug-fix rollout for Internet Explorer version 11. Several issues with Edline interacting with IE 11 have been corrected.

Microsoft is planning to move toward rapid releases and auto-updating of Internet Explorer. Blackboard has prepared updates to accommodate future IE releases.

I Can’t Find Grades!

Some schools are using Edline on a trial basis or decide not to post grades through Edline. Often during a trial, only some of the teachers put their grades on Edline. Ask your school to find out which teachers are using Edline and how frequently they will be updating their class information and grades.

Another possibility is your school has decided not to post grades online. Contact your school for more information.

What If Someone Does Not Receive a Message?

There are several reasons why a recipient might not receive your message:

  • The email address on file with Edline may be incorrect.
  • An email address may not exist on file with Edline.
  • User may have chosen not to receive email messages from the school through Edline.
  • User may not have activated the Edline account.
  • User’s email service provider may be having trouble, or user’s email box may be full.
  • User’s email program may have put the message in a "junk" folder. Ask the user to configure the email program to place email from Edline into the regular "Inbox."
  • User should configure the following two email addresses to their address book or "safe senders" list:

Contact your school’s Edline Manager if you continue to have issues with receiving email from Edline.

What If I Can’t View a File on Edline?

If your district, school, or teacher created a document file that you cannot view from Edline, you may not have the required software application installed on your computer to open the file.

If the file was designed using another type of program, contact your school to ask them about how to download the correct viewing application to access the document.

When Will I See the Latest Grades?

Each school determines how frequently it wants teachers to update their information. If you feel a particular teacher is not updating class information as frequently as the others, you can discuss it with the teacher or your school.

Where Are My Contents, Classes, Sports, and Activities?

More and more schools have been designing enticing and artistic homepages for their school’s website and they have been removing the Edline standard Contents section from the homepage. Many school administrators, teachers, and students were accustomed to accessing specific content such as Classes, Sports, and Activities through the Contents section. This information is now available by hovering over the Home () icon in the Edline menu bar.

Select the specific option (Classes, Sports, or Activities), or for the full list of items available in the Contents section, select More or Edit Contents.

Why Does Edline Timeout?

Edline will timeout automatically after nearly 20 minutes of inactivity for security reasons. Sign in again when the system times-out.
