Courses and Content

Courses contain content and tools for your learning experience. Your instructor manages the course through the course menu and Control Panel. All course management functions are accessed through links in the Control Panel. The Control Panel is located under the course menu and is only available to users with one of the following defined course roles: Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Grader, Course Builder, or Administrator.

While your instructor has control over the course, the Blackboard administrator at your school can set defaults that can restrict or require specific features and tools.

A course consists of the course menu and a content frame. The course menu links to content and tools and the content frame displays the feature you select.

  1. Course Menu: The course menu appears on the left side of a course and contains links to materials and tools within the course.
  2. Content Frame: The content frame occupies most of the screen to display the current view. You interact with content from this screen.
  3. Content Area: Content areas are top-level containers that organize and store course content, such as lecture notes, assignments, and tests. The content appears in the content frame.
