Configuring Ehcache

A cache is a collection of temporary data that either duplicates data located elsewhere or is the result of a computation. Ehcache is a widely used Java-distributed cache for general purpose caching, Java EE™, and light-weight containers.

Ehcache was introduced in Blackboard Learn Release 9.0 as a unified caching architecture. After the data is in the cache, it can be accessed repeatedly at little cost by avoiding calls to the database.
