The overall release strategy has been consistent for the past several years, with four service pack releases planned during the year.

  • The even-numbered service packs are largely comprised of new features and enhancements.
  • The odd-numbered service packs are primarily maintenance releases.

In 2013, the building block architecture was used to introduce functionality at a more rapid rate. This approach ensured that you receive the latest innovation in learning technology as soon as possible. The benefit of a building block release is that you can adopt it in a flexible manner and choose how and when to enable it for your academic community. You can easily incorporate it into your testing plans and readiness activities for your next upgrade. Most building blocks released independent of service packs are bundled into the next new feature service pack.

Blackboard offers full support, including patches, for the current generally available service pack and two service packs prior. Please refer to the Client Support Services Guide for details about this guideline.

For detailed information about each service pack's features, see the Release Notes.
