My Blackboard provides users with one location to view and take action on their critical academic information. It aggregates information from across the Blackboard Learn system for a user.
Some of the information in My Blackboard is available to users in other locations of Blackboard Learn, such as the Notifications Dashboard and My Grades. My Blackboard collects all key information that contribute to a user’s success and presents it in one, easy to access location.
Users are introduced to My Blackboard with a login overlay when the user first enters Blackboard Learn. This overlay identifies the tools available to the user in My Blackboard and shows the user how to find them.
Accessing My Blackboard Tools
The My Blackboard tools are accessed from a global navigation menu at the top of every page. The menu consists of links and tools that give users direct access to the information they need.
For a tour, see My Blackboard and Navigation.
Managing My Blackboard
My Blackboard cannot be disabled. You can enable and disable some, but not all, of the tools in My Blackboard by turning the cloud on or off. Some of the tools collect information that is available with Blackboard Learn, such as user grades, and cannot be disabled. Other tools require Cloud to be turned on, while some tools require a community engagement license and the Social Learning Tools Building Block.
Cloud sessions work differently than Learn sessions because all Learn instances connect to the same cloud. In a Blackboard Learn session, you can log in to a different Learn instance or as a different user in the same browser. In a cloud session, because the session cookie contains information about what Learn instance the particular user came from, the Learn instance allows only one session cookie per browser.
When the Learn instance detects that a user is trying to log in to the cloud from more than one instance or another user account in the same browser, the instance logs out the user. This behavior is necessary to avoid data conflicts and unpredictable behavior.
If a user needs to log in to multiple Learn instances or with multiple user accounts, the user can do so through an incognito window in Chrome or through a private browsing session in Firefox.
