Individual Course Quotas

Quotas keep courses from exceeding acceptable disk space limits and warn instructors when a course is approaching the limit. You can grant additional disk space to individual courses, if necessary.

The Course Quota page options set the course quota and legacy file storage. Course quota does not include files stored in private storage. The total quota for the course includes the legacy file storage quota, course quota, and private storage files. Setting a limit notifies users when the course quota is about to be exceeded. Setting an course quota for a specific course overrides the default setting.

Course quota limitations do not include discussion board attachments.

Legacy files are stored on the local disk of the server on which Blackboard Learn is running. Files associated with course material in any version of Blackboard Learn before release 9.1 could be stored in legacy storage. For this to happen, users would have enabled local file system storage in that version of Blackboard Learn.

Blackboard Learn uses multiple types of storage, including course files, hidden/private storage, and local storage. Only course files are counted in determining a course's quota. For example, attachments to discussion board threads, blogs, journals, and wikis are saved in hidden/private storage, so these do not count toward a course's quota.
