Release Notes for Mobile Web Services

Extend your existing Blackboard Learn implementation to mobile devices.

Blackboard Mobile Web Services: Release 94.9.2 (limited)

Description

The Mobile Web Services Building Block enables your users to connect to their content through Blackboard's mobile product line on their mobile devices. Blackboard currently has three mobile applications: Bb Student, Bb Grader, and Blackboard Mobile.

  • Help for Bb Student. This new app is tailored to students' needs by providing timely information in an activity stream and a consolidated list of due dates. Students can also access course content, take tests, and submit assignments on iOS, Android, and Windows phones.
  • Help for Bb Grader. Bb Grader is a portable solution for instructors for reviewing, providing feedback, and grading student submissions in Blackboard Learn courses on iPads.
  • Help for Blackboard Mobile Learn. Mobile Learn is the original mobile app for Blackboard Learn and gives students and instructors access to courses, content, discussions, and organizations on Android™ and iPhone.

Improvements and Resolved Issues

Version 94.9.2 improves performance and stability of the Mobile Web Services building block.

Known Issues

No known issues were found.

SaaS Clients

SaaS clients do not need to take any action to receive this update as it is applied automatically. No interruption of service is expected as a result of this update.

Self-Hosted Clients

On a fresh install of Blackboard Learn, the Mobile Learn Building Block is inactive by default, and will need to be activated and registered with the Mobile Learn Central Service, which can be completed from within the building block.

For Blackboard Learn instances that already have an older version of the Mobile Learn Building Block, updating to the latest version will retain the same state as the previous version. If the previous version was active and registered, the new version will retain the registration without any additional action on the administrator’s part.

Version 94.9.2 applies only to Blackboard Learn SaaS and Learn 9.1 Q2 2016 CU 2 environments at this time.

Disable and Remove the Building Block

If an administrator disables or removes the building block, users will not be able to locate their Blackboard Learn instance when using the Mobile Learn, Bb Student, or Bb Grader school picker. The administrator must re-enable, or re-install the building block.

Install Building Blocks

Roles

Administrators install the building block and register the institution.

Instructors use the app to review and grade student submissions.

Dependencies

The Mobile Learn Building Block must be registered with the Mobile Learn Central Service, which can be completed from the building block.

Configure and Register Blackboard Mobile Web Services

Access the Build

  • The Mobile Web Services Building Block version 94.9.2 was released through Software Updates on Monday, August 8, 2016. This new version will appear as a building block update in the Software Updates module within 24 hours.
  • Or, download the building block here.

Blackboard Mobile strongly recommends that all clients, self-hosted and those that use Managed Hosting, upgrade the Mobile Web Services Building Block. For recommendations and best practices when upgrading building blocks, please see Article #35604 – Recommended Building Block Upgrade Order and Best Practices.

Blackboard services will need to be restarted on each server in the environment in a rolling fashion.

Managed Hosting Clients

Managed Hosting clients should create a case on Behind the Blackboard to schedule the recommended server restarts after the building block is updated. To expedite the scheduling process, please include a desired day and time for the restarts to begin.

Blackboard Mobile Web Services: Release 94.9.1

Description

Version 94.9.1 resolves various issues with Bb Student.

Bb Student Improvements and Resolved Issues

  • Adds the ability for embedded images in HTML items to display in-line.
  • Resolves session issue where Force to Web authenticated users need to constantly re-authenticate.
  • Fixes issue where some due dates are missing when a non-English system language is selected.
  • Fixes incorrectly displayed grades on the Grades page.
  • Resolves issues where students can’t hide Ultra courses on the Courses screen.
